The West Volusia Wolves mission is to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structure environment. Through this active participation, our programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives. We encourage good sportsmanship, fair play and a love of the game. While we foster athletic skills and believe winning games is important, our primary focus is molding good citizens and developing fine character.
The West Volusia Wolves Spirit Program provides kids an opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment. Our programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone. Our cheer coaching staff is dedicated to encouraging, motivating and inspiring our participants to reach their full potential as athletes, scholars, and people. We are committed to teaching cheer skills to each participant.
Pop Warner is the only national youth sport program that requires participants to maintain minimum scholastic standards. WVYFCA stresses that playing football or cheer is secondary to each childs schooling. If at any time it is brought to the attention of the WV Wolves Board that a child is failing in school due to their participation in football or cheer, the Board will meet with that child and their parent(s) to discuss the matter. If necessary, the Board will suspend the participant until his/her grades improve. In the same spirit, any child that maintains high scholastic achievement during the football/cheerseason will be eligible for a scholastic award.
Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level. The Pop Warner All-American Program requires a minimum 96% grade point average to apply. After the applications have been processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 35 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars.
