We will be taking requests for Football and Cheer Head Coach positions. All Head Coach positions are considered open after a season ends and so a candidate can interview for any team. We plan on holding interviews on January 28th. We will need anyone interested to respond by January 23rd. Please email our Football Director Paul Strittmatter / Cheer coordinator Tonya Perry. Our coaches are one the most important part of our football/cheer program because they decide what kind of experience our athletes will have with football and cheer. As an organization we are committed to the principles of positive coaching. We expect our coaches to be "Double-Goal Coaches." We expect them to want to win, but most importantly help players learn life lessons and positive character traits from sports.
2016 has been a great year for the West Volusia Wolves Organization, Our Junior Varsity cheer squad dominated East Coast Conference, the Southest Region and The National Championships, being the 1st West Volusia Wolves cheer team to win a National Championship. The future looks bright, with some other accomplishments listed below. The organization is now a 2 time Pop Warner National Champion in Cheer & Football.
Finally, we would like to recognize our JV Football Head Coach, Joe DeSousa, for being named East Coast Conference Coach of the Year. He lead his team to a 3rd straight East Coast Conference Championship. Congratulations on Coach of the Year and a great season!
The West Volusia Wolves mission is to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structure environment. Through this active participation, our programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives. We encourage good sportsmanship, fair play and a love of the game. While we foster athletic skills and believe winning games is important, our primary focus is molding good citizens and developing fine character.
Pop Warner stil continues to be the only youth football, cheer & dance organization that requires participants to maintain academic standards in order to participate. This separates us from all other youth sports organizations.
The West Volusia Wolves Spirit Program provides kids an opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment. Our programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone. Our cheer coaching staff is dedicated to encouraging, motivating and inspiring our participants to reach their full potential as athletes, scholars, and people. We are committed to teaching cheer skills to each participant.
The participants in the Pop Warner program are unique as opposed to those of other programs. While they are taught about the values of competition, they are also maintaining their grades at a satisfactory level in order to attain the ultimate prize of being named a Pop Warner National Champion.
Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level. The Pop Warner All-American Program requires a minimum 96% grade point average to apply. After the applications have been processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 35 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars.
